The role of the Sr. Energy Analyst is to support the preparation, analysis, and reporting of energy, financial, and building control systems (engineering) data. The successful candidate will work closely with analysts and others across Operations, R&D, and Sales & Marketing to deliver customer value and to support internal initiatives.

Responsibilities include synthesizing large and diverse datasets, standardization, aggregation, reporting, and quantitative analysis. Phoenix Energy Technologies, Inc. has accumulated a unique Terabyte-scale database of thousands of buildings’ control and sensor data sampled in real-time with history going back for years. The growth of this database is accelerating, positioning Phoenix to be a leader in creating value from big-data approaches to the “Internet of Things”. Accordingly, the Sr. Energy Analyst must be able to create data sets from diverse sources including SQL databases, identify and resolve missing or invalid data, and summarize data sets using appropriate statistics. Activities will also include using our standard processes and toolset to review and process fault-detection-algorithm outputs, entering data into proprietary databases, and delivering data and reports to internal and external customers. In this role, we expect the Sr. Energy Analyst to be highly organized, have strong communications skills and business acumen. The ability to present data, as well as represent thoughts and ideas in compelling presentation formats is essential to success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze customer energy and other data opportunities to meet energy savings and other customer objectives
  • Review and process fault-detection-algorithm outputs, monitor algorithm performance over time
  • Support the creation of reports and related deliverables within specified timelines, including data extraction, cleaning and standardization, creating statistical summaries, performing standardized and ad-hoc quantitative analyses
  • Execute analytic research projects generated both internally in connection with new product/service development and externally in connection with serving existing Customers and attracting new ones
  • Support the sales process by providing both preliminary and comprehensive analyses of opportunities for prospects and customers through the pilots and full implementations
  • Translate customer needs into detailed business and technical requirements
  • Identify and present opportunities for automating and/or improving current analysis and reporting processes and methods.
  • Support the creation of reports and related deliverables within specified timelines, including data extraction, cleaning and standardization, creating statistical summaries, performing standardized and ad-hoc quantitative analyses
  • Research and troubleshoot escalated customer issues related to energy consumption
  • Develop and configure energy conservation measures and demand management strategies using Phoenix Energy Technology’s proprietary systems and tools
  • Collaborate with other business groups to support company objectives and priorities, for example: working with the marketing team to develop case studies, supporting the Customer Experience Manager and other customer facing colleagues by providing investigative analyses to answer specific questions or to identify and communicate value propositions, working closely with our various service teams to leverage customer energy and other data to its fullest extent, and supporting R&D and new product development efforts in creating and improving proprietary software products and tools

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics field or equivalent experience
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience working with energy analysis and data
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Able to work as part of a team and individually
  • Motivated and proactive, takes initiative and owns their work
  • Good time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – ability to translate technical and complex ideas for the novice
  • Must be organized
  • Strong presentation skills – willingness and ability to participate in the presales process and customer facing engagements
  • Mastery of MS Office tools including MS Excel & BI
  • Understanding of and ability to properly apply basic statistical methods such as summary measures, regression, outlier detection, trend analyses
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis tools
  • Motivated, proactive and accountable, owns their work
  • Experience working with building control systems data
  • Experience working with refrigeration control systems data

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CEM or Professional Engineering Certification
  • Knowledge of primary building energy systems and related data: HVAC, lighting, etc.
  • Retail and commercial buildings energy experience
  • Experience working with energy billing systems data
